It may be hard to believe, but I have actually endured a boring day while @work in 1999. Not that boring work days are uncommon - but if you're working an enthusiast's dream job, boredom is rarely the issue. My supervisor clicked his pen and stood just over the cube. Time for a Coffee Break. He said. Coffee? I thought. I have enough coffee right here - I've had two coffee's this morning so far! I glanced around the cube before asking. A coffee break? Yea. He said. You get about 15 minutes to rest then come back. Okay. I said, and pushed a folder aside on my desk. This felt altogether new. I have worked jobs before, but the closest thing there that resembled a coffee break were the folks who would step outside for certain gratifications - mostly having nothing @all to do w/coffee. A coffee break _ @twenty, I felt so grown-up (in a silver screen sort of way). I made a few stops by fellow co-worker cubes, and the break began. I sat down to a vacant breakroom table with full intention of enjoying the free time. Then, my bubbling Java juices began to lose their joyous perk - I absolutely had nothing to do! With more than ten minutes to ponder what I might find entertaining, the canvas of my workplace downtime remained blank. My beloved styro cup of coffee - with the usual tasks to maintain its' sustenance such as mixing, stirring and tasting all seemed so very bland since I also lacked enough time for a vend machine muffin run. By now, I'm facing a real predicament! I decided to turn to the trusty world wide web, in hopes that someone out there has at least experienced a coffee break for themselves recently. Unfortunately though, the fairly new search engine only produced keyword listings of the beverage itself and a few garbled accounts of consumer complaints. I sat back in the chair feeling somewhat annoyed and reworded my request - still, nothing. I felt fairly upset by now, since the coffee break would be generally
this lengthy everyday - yet no realtime instructions as to its' use are available? What is the meaning of this! It became clear that in order to make the best of a standard downtime schedule, I would be on my own. Fortunately, while roaming a few hi-rise halls with an excuse to reprint my worker badge pic - I discovered the company's mainframe! Alas, computing has
actually saved the day. I somehow managed to enjoy my remaining breaktime while maintaining that warm&fuzzy feeling of learning something new. (I♡Computers) Otherwise, this entry would hv described 'My worst coffee break - ever.' Nowadays, there are more than enough notes - newsletters and articles of a 'cuppa talk online.
